Mithril Merino wool is grown by gorgeous natural coloured grey and black merino sheep, resulting in a magical silver grey colour top when carded and blended : hence the name Mithril, inspired by the rare silver like metal from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.

The fibre is around 20 micron, very soft and has a closely spaced crimp. You can spin a fine woollen yarn using the long draw or a worsted yarn using a short draw. Mithril Merino is ideal for super fine knitting, crochet and lacework.

These pure Mithril Merino tops come from non-mulesed merino sheep. We only use wool with good length that is free from breaks, has high bulk, brightness, low vegetable matter and is the correct micron. The wool is washed using a standard aqueous treatment with eco-friendly biodegradable detergent. 

The tops are ready to use with no waste or preparation. They are easy to draft and easy to lay out for felting, or to use in all your needle felting projects.

The hand dyed colours are deep and saturated and more colours will be added once I have more Mithril sheep tops available.
