Tussah Silk Tops
Tussah Silk Fibre Tops
Tussah silk is a wild silk produced by silk moths of the Antheraea genus, known for its strength, durability, and has natural beige or cream colour. It's also called "wild silk" or "peace silk" because the silk moths hatch before the cocoons are harvested 💕
The silk moths producing Tussah silk or wild silk eat oak leaves and juniper leaves.
Tussah silk is valued for spinning, weaving, felting, paper making, and blending with other fibres. It has a slightly coarser texture than cultivated mulberry silk, making it more forgiving for beginners and can add a unique, slightly slubby effect to fabrics.
Our Tussah silk top is a A-grade quality, combed into a top and ready to spin! This lustrous fibre is ideal for use in spinning or blending with other any fibre or spin on it’s own. Excellent for felting and paper making as well.
i have also added a blend with hand dyed tussah silk and sari silk to this section: it is great to add to batts and will make your yarn have a fabulously tweedy silky look.
